Anesthesia Care Team Model:

The care team model employs physician anesthesiologists and CRNA’s collaborating to deliver care to the patient. The anesthesiologist evaluates the patient’s medical conditions and history prior to the procedure and involves pertinent medical specialists to arrange necessary testing, with the collective goal of optimizing the patient’s condition so that anesthesia and the procedure will be performed safely. If follow-up is required, the anesthesiologist will meet with the patient prior to the procedure for further evaluation. Both the anesthesiologist and the CRNA will meet with the patient the day of the procedure to discuss and finalize a plan of care, and the intra-operative and post-operative care will be performed by this team approach.

Physician-Only Model:

The physician-only model involves physician anesthesiologists directly performing both the pre-operative assessments and engaging specialists for the purpose of medically optimizing the patients prior to their surgical procedures. On the day of surgery, the patient will be greeted and evaluated by the physician anesthesiologist and all intra-operative and recovery room care will be performed directly by the anesthesiologist.

CRNA-Only Model:

This model involves the CRNA serving the dual role of clinician and consultant as it relates to formulating an anesthesia plan and collaborating with other medical specialists, insuring for a medically optimized patient and a safe anesthetic. On the day of surgery, the patient will be greeted by the clinician who will offer the available options, and they will see the patient through both the intra-operative and recovery room settings.

Hybrid Model:

This solution borrows facets from both the CRNA-only and Anesthesia Care Team models to deliver a CRNA at the point of care who is responsible for the delivery of the anesthesia services to the patient. The physician anesthesiologist functions in the pre-operative period by assessing the patient’s medical history and engaging with medical specialists to insure a thorough evaluation of their health status has been performed. These efforts insure that the CRNA will receive a patient who is optimized based upon their medical conditions. The physician anesthesiologist is readily available to the surgeon and CRNA via the remote capabilities that we have today to further direct care for the patient.

Education & Training

Highly educated experts with 7-8 years of nursing and anesthesia education and training. CRNAs must be re-certified every 2 years.

High Quality Care

CRNAs deliver anesthesia to patients in the same ways, for the same types of procedures, and just as safely as their physician counterparts.

Cost Effective

A landmark study shows that the most cost-effective anesthesia delivery model is the CRNA working as the solo anesthesia provider.
